Eel Steel by Pro Guide Dave Jacobs
January 26, 2008
Eel Steel...Even though the rains may have stopped for the time being, there are many other steelhead fishing opportunities in Northern California like certain sections of the Eel river system. This is a huge river system with many steelhead fishing opportunities if you hit the right section at the right time. The Eel river also has many places to fish so guides and anglers have the chance to spread out. Gerald McClellan of San Mateo, Ca. was on board Professional guide services Dave Jacobs' driftboat for a steelhead fishing adventure on the Eel river in late January. Here is Gerald with a nice 10 pound wild steelhead caught and released that day. Side drifting roe and a Quickie puffball was the go to technique with back trolling hot shots in various color combos a close second. Steelhead fishing was good on the Eel river until the rains returned later in the month.
